Osijek Airport (OSI)
Osijek Airport (or Zračna luka Osijek in Croatian) is the international airport of Osijek, Croatia. It is located at 20 kilometers east southeast of Osijek and it is situated near the Osijek – Vukovar regional road, southwest of the eponymous village of Klisa.
Due to its important location near the junction of the Drava and Danube rivers, this large and prosperous town (the fourth largest city in Croatia with a population around 120,000) bore much of the brunt of the recent conflict in the 1990s. Many fine buildings have been restored to their former glory, though do not be surprised to see some scars still remaining. Some buildings still have bullet holes or shrapnel markings in them, though like the local economy, the town is mostly back to where it was in pre-war days. Osijek is the largest city and the economic and the cultural center of the eastern Croatian region of Slavonia, as well as the administrative center of Osijek-Baranja County. Osijek has a large student population, as it home to the University of Osijek where approximately 18,000 students attend.
Airport Terminals and Airlines
The terminal building, with an area of 1300 m2, provides a steady flow from 200 to 400 passengers per hour, or 100,000 to 150,000 passengers per year. As an additional passenger service there is a possibility for contracting individual charter flights. The passenger terminal is equipped to handle domestic and international traffic, it features passport and custom controls, passenger and baggage check-in, exchange, information, a café-bar and restaurant as well as rent a car, taxi and car parking services.
As of January 2019, Osijek airport is served by the following airlines: Croatia Airlines, Eurowings, Lufthansa, Trade Air and Wizz Air, offering regular and seasonal flights to multiple destinations.
Airport Services and Facilities
To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Osijek Airport. The small terminal at Osijek Airport handles a few regional routes. Eateries and duty-free shopping are available, and the free Wi-Fi helps pass the time. You cannot smoke inside, but there is a smoking terrace by the cafe. Food and drink concessions are also available both Landside and Airside.
Unfortunately, airport lounges are not available at this airport and frankly, its small terminal offers only the basic traveling necessities. If spending the night at the Osijek Airport does not appeal to you, there are hotels near the airport, so make sure to book a room in advance. In case you need some cash, do note that ATMs are available at this airport. If you need help finding your way, you can always visit the airport’s information desk, located landside, at the check-in area. If you feel unwell or if you injure yourself before or after the flight, first aid services are available. There are a few mobile charging stations at this airport, however no rest zones or showers are to be found here. So if you have a long layover, make sure to plan ahead and go to the city.
There are some private bus shuttles that you can book to reach the center of Osijek from the Osijek Airport, however you need to book in advance and wait for the passengers to get to the shuttle. Aside from rent a car services or paying for a pricey taxi service, which are the other remaining transport options, there are no public transport services (bus or rail included) from and to this airport. Instead of perhaps paying for a taxi service, you can also book a reliable door-to-door private transportation with UpTransfers, carried out with a modern fleet of fully licensed and insured vehicles, and be welcomed at the airport by an English-speaking driver - an excellent choice for traveling with style. It is the perfect way to travel from the airport to the city and relax a little on the back seat, especially if you had a long flight. It is comfortable, convenient and pretty much affordable.
